The desire for a community shop has come through very strongly in all of the community consultation we have carried out so far. To explore the possibility, we commission a shop report, this report shows that running a shop that makes a profit is not easy. However, a community shop that breaks even is a possibility. The evidence of this comes from studies of other community shops within the area, and from national data drawn together by the Plunkett Foundation. A shop in the church building would have it’s customer numbers boosted by visitors coming to see the Kilmartin Crosses and the attraction of the view from the church tower. This would significantly increased footfall in the summer months.
The question is what would the shop stock be which would attract locals to use it all year round? To help us to answer this, we are asking you some questions within the community choice questionnaire.
